Jason Squirrel grows tired of fetching heavy bags of nuts for food each day, and devises a plan to form a nut-collecting company that will provide more leisure time. While Jason thinks his idea is quite genius, his friends kid the squirrel for his naivety; Jason is soon denied a loan from Stan the Banking Turtle to start the business.

Jason persists with his dream and educates himself on the aspects of running a business, from finance to marketing to staffing. When he finds an investor in Grandpa Crow, the squirrel begins to overcome the obstacles that block him from achieving personal success with his nut-collecting startup.

"When I was young, I never even had the idea that I could start my own business," Steimle said. "It wasn't until I was older and in college that I realized it would be possible. Since then, I thought there should be more books for younger children that talk about building your own company."

The 30-page illustrated children's book details how Jason's business endeavor becomes successful, so much so that he hires a group of raccoons to help with his workload.

Steimle's story of Jason and his nut-collecting company shows young children that they are capable of doing anything through hard work, determination and perseverance.

One morning, as Gregor Samsa was waking up from anxious dreams, he discovered that he had been changed into an adorable kitten.

The phenomenal success of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies inspired a massively popular literary-remix movement. Now Quirk Classics once again charts bold new territory, turning the monster-mash-up formula inside out to infuse Franz Kafka's horrific masterpiece, "The Metamorphosis," with the fuzziest, snuggliest, most adorable creatures possible: kittens!

Gregor Samsa is a humble young man who supports his unemployed parents and teenage sister by working as a traveling fabric salesman. But his life goes strangely wrong in the very first sentence of The Meowmorphosis, when he wakes up late for work and discovers that he has inexplicably become an adorable kitten.

His family must admit that, yes, their son is now OMG so cute—but what good is cute when there are bills to pay? How can Gregor be so selfish as to devote his attention to a ball of yarn? And how dare he jump out the bedroom window to wander through Kafka's literary landscape? Never before has a cat's tale been so poignant, strange, and horrifyingly funny.

"And Tango Makes Three" waddles its way back to the number one slot as America’s most frequently challenged book

Justin Richardson’s and Peter Parnell’s "And Tango Makes Three" tops the list of the American Library Association’s (ALA) Top Ten List of the Most Frequently Challenged Books of 2010. The list was released today as part of the ALA’s State of America’s Libraries Report.

"And Tango Makes Three" is an award-winning children’s book about the true story of two male Emperor Penguins hatching and parenting a baby chick at New York’s Central Park Zoo. The book has appeared on the ALA’s Top Ten List of Frequently Challenged Books for the past five years and returns to the number one slot after a brief stay at the number two position in 2009. There have been dozens of attempts to remove And Tango Makes Threefrom school and public library shelves. Those seeking to remove the book have described it as "unsuited for age group," and cited "religious viewpoint" and "homosexuality" as reasons for challenging the book.

Off the list this year are such classics as Alice Walker’s "Color Purple"; "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Harper Lee; "Catcher in the Rye" by J.D. Salinger; and Robert Cormier’s "The Chocolate War." Replacing them are books reflecting a range of themes and ideas that include "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley; "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie; "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins; and Stephenie Meyer’s "Twilight."

“While we firmly support the right of every reader to choose or reject a book for themselves or their families, those objecting to a particular book should not be given the power to restrict other readers’ right to access and read that book,” said Barbara Jones, director of ALA’s Office for Intellectual Freedom. “As members of a pluralistic and complex society, we must have free access to a diverse range of viewpoints on the human condition in order to foster critical thinking and understanding. We must protect one of the most precious of our fundamental rights – the freedom to read.”

The ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) collects reports on book challenges from librarians, teachers, concerned individuals, and press reports from across the United States. A challenge is defined as a formal, written complaint filed with a library or school requesting that a book or other material be restricted or removed because of its content or appropriateness. In 2010, OIF received 348 reports on efforts to remove or restrict materials from school curricula and library bookshelves.

Though OIF receives reports of challenges from a variety of sources, a majority of challenges go unreported.

The ALA’s Top Ten Most Frequently Challenged Books of 2010 include the following titles; each title is followed by the reasons given for challenging the book:

1. "And Tango Makes Three" by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson

Reasons: Homosexuality, Religious Viewpoint, Unsuited to Age Group

2. "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie

Reasons: Offensive language, Racism, Sex Education, Sexually Explicit, Unsuited to Age Group, Violence

3. "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley

Reasons: Insensitivity, Offensive Language, Racism, Sexually Explicit

4. "Crank" by Ellen Hopkins

Reasons: Drugs, Offensive Language, Sexually Explicit

5. "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins

Reasons: Sexually Explicit, Unsuited to Age Group, Violence

6. "Lush" by Natasha Friend

Reasons: Drugs, Offensive Language, Sexually Explicit, Unsuited to Age Group

7. "What My Mother Doesn’t Know" by Sonya Sones

Reasons: Sexism, Sexually Explicit, Unsuited to Age Group

8. "Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By In America" by Barbara Ehrenreich

Reasons: Drugs, Inaccurate, Offensive Language, Political Viewpoint, Religious Viewpoint

9. "Revolutionary Voices" edited by Amy Sonnie

Reasons: Homosexuality, Sexually Explicit

10. "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer

Reasons: Religious Viewpoint, Violence

For more information on book challenges and censorship, please visit the Office for Intellectual Freedom’s Banned Books Week Web site at www.ala.org/bbooks.

The Office for Intellectual Freedom is charged with implementing ALA policies concerning the concept of intellectual freedom as embodied in the Library Bill of Rights, the Association’s basic policy on free access to libraries and library materials. The goal of the office is to educate librarians and the general public about the nature and importance of intellectual freedom in libraries. As part of its mission, OIF offers comprehensive support for librarians, teachers, and members of the public who are working behind the scenes and on the front lines to protect the public’s right to read.

The State of America’s Libraries Report documents trends in library usage and details the impact of library budget cuts, technology use and the various other challenges facing U.S. libraries. The obvious answers would be to learn obscure and fascinating information about one of the most mystified and taboo-addled realms of human experience, and/or to get turned on. Or, maybe you’re doing an intensive research project on furries or paraphilias or fetishism. There’s something a little weird about reading a sex encyclopedia for any reason, but it must be even stranger to write one. What falls into the category of sex, and what doesn’t? Should you be all Freudian about it, and see phalluses in every cigar? Or should you limit your entries to blatantly sexual things, like birdbathing (“Sex act in which the recipient takes not only the penis and testicles into the mouth but also a good portion of the male ass, containing him in much the way a birdbath would if he sat in one. See also TOSSING SALAD.”), furverts, chicken hawks, and blow jobs?"

Jerry Beck is working on a new book project with Insight Editions (the same folks who published The Hanna Barbera Treasury) - and needs your help.

The concept is similar to his long out-of-print book, The 50 Greatest Cartoons (1994), only this time its all Warner Bros. Cartoons and we will highlight the top one hundred. He is personally contacting some of the top historians, animators, critics, filmmakers and authorities for their opinion. But why stop there? In 1994, for his previous book, he didn’t have the Internet to do the poll (nor did he have a blog). It should be exciting to see what the consensus of the online world is.
