The Wombles Reunite For Glastonbury

The original furry eco-warriors from Wimbledon Common are back with an abundance of album releases and their debut appearance at Glastonbury. All four of their gold-achieving albums plus the soundtrack to the 1977 film Wombling Free will be released by Dramatico Records on June 20th prior to their performance on the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury on June 26th.

Rap Song Mentions Furries, Makes Fandom Too Legit to Quit

"Itâ€™s a well known fact that Iâ€™ve just made up that youâ€™re not really an icon of popular culture until someone uses you as a rhyme in a rap song (see: everything of note that rappers have ever referenced over the last couple decades). As of 2010, the furry fandom can be included among that.

Brooklyn rap duo Das Racist, who are best known for their arguably novelty rap songs like â€œCombination Pizza Hut and Taco Bellâ€ have released a new song over their Twitter account. The track â€œIâ€™m Up On Thatâ€ [ft. Homeboy Sandman] covers everything from race relations to Heisman trophies to Google chat. And then thereâ€™s this line:

â€œIâ€™m nasty on craigslist Iâ€™ll meet me some furries.â€

This is, to my knowledge, the first time that the fandom has been used to find a rhyme for the word â€œcurryâ€.

Fursuits Star In "Higher Than The Stars" Music Video

At least a dozen fursuiters in the Northeast U.S. play a major part in a music video for "Higher Than The Stars," a single released by the the indie pop band "The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart."

In the video, a young girl discovers a party filled with furries. Foxwell shares a drink with her as fursuiters mingle, dance, and swarm around the band.

The video was shot in Brooklyn, NY last November.

New film version of "Rats of NIMH" in works

Paramount smells a rat.

As rodents prove surprisingly likable on the big screen, the studio is developing a feature version of the Newbery Medal-winning children's book "Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH."

Director Neil Burger ("The Illusionist") is in talks to write the screenplay.

The movie would be the second theatrical go-round for the book, which MGM brought to the screen in 1982 as the animated "The Secret of NIMH," directed by Don Bluth.

For those late to the concept: furry x 60 2 is sixty pieces of music written by furries, with each piece totalling sixty seconds in length, laid end to end. No restrictions were put on what that sixty seconds can contain, only that it should be an original work of their own.

And what a cornucopia of music we've ended up with! Pop (Kobi LaCroix, Kurrel the Raven), instrumentals (eorpheus, Moult, Kaliden), blues and grunge (Brody Catsmouth, Abrahm, SableAble), avant-garde (Bartbix, Dust Frolic, verix, Steinkreis), electronic dance music of all sorts (X, Huepow00, Sage Taylor), downtempo and cerebral beats (Firr, CHICAGOÂ¤lollie, Luciffur, Corbin Busker, mendes), chiptunes (Electric Keet, Counterpoint and Nobuyuki), orchestral (Jack Chandler, Equium, Kuga the Iguanadon), and even some honest-to-goodness rap (emptyF, Bucktown Tiger). True to the compilation's emphasis on variety, it's been equally as common for artists to submit music in completely different genres as not.

Again, thanks to all the musicians (both new and returning!) who contributed to this project. It's been a pleasure hearing such a wealth of accomplished creativity of a community not at all reputed for its musical prowess.
