"tl;dr - ISP's shit's broke. Nothing we can do about it. Patience is a virtue. Etc, etc, etc."
From net-cat on the FA forums:
"The mainsite was getting 502's.
This is because the database server seems to have crapped itself. It's not responding to pings.
Since I don't have access to the database server, we'll have to wait for someone who does.
In the meantime, I took the site offline.
Have a happy new year, fuzzies."
Fur Affinity is down again. Sources point to a problem with someone at the colo swapping around cables.
Per dave: "Furaffinity will not be up tonight. Yak has been up for about 48 hours at this point, working on getting FA going, and absolutely needs some rest.
He's been working on rewriting the code that sends people messages. The notification sending subsystem has to be able to use the changed main tables of the database. At the moment, the site doesn't work properly and won't till this has been fixed. We believe that it will probably be up by Tuesday, but if further issues come up, then we will have to update you then."
28 Days Later... we have working servers again. However, there is still some work to do. We have begun migrating data to the new Dell data storage, Trogdor, and started the rebuilding begins now.
More info will be posted when it's ready. The site will NOT have some instant, miraculous return. Smashing your F5 key into digital dust will not make the site run come back any faster, though I hear if you remove your F5 key from your keyboard and place it until your pillow at night something magical will transpire.
Per yak: "Second server is in the process of being ordered. It is a Sun Fire x4150, and it's role would be the main front facing application server.
In the end FA will have three dedicated servers - database, file server and application server."
Per Dragoneer: "Our new file server, Trogdor, has been ordered (thanks for the name, Samael!) Trogdor is a high end HP ProLiant quad-core Opteron utilizing AMD's latest technology. It packs a delicious 16GB of RAM (yes, you read that right) and a mere 12TB of hard drive space. Yeah, totally bad ass. In addition, we will also have 2 1TB drives on hand in the case anything should ever go wrong, we'll have spare parts available."
Per Dragoneer: Right now the coders are looking over and trying to find the best hardware configurations we can get. We plan to order the new systems today, an will post the configurations that we ultimately decide upon.
